Keynotes at the Geotechnical and Structural Engineering Congress

The Geotechnical and Structural Engineering Congress attracts lots of keynote addresses touching on the various fields of structural and geotechnical engineering. Below are the most relevant keynote deliveries at the event and the respective presenters.

Kingdom Tower in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia

The Building the Kingdom Tower in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia was presented by Robert C. Sinn, P.E., S.E., FACI, FIABSE, LEED AP BD+C, F.ASCE, Principal and Building Structure Practice Leader, and Thornton Tomasetti Inc.; Alan R. Poeppel, P.E., Senior Principal, Langan Engineering and Environmental Inc.

While the construction of the humongous tower started in 2013, it is not anywhere near complete because of the various challenges its construction faced. Labor was the primary cause for the halting of the construction. According to reports, however, work will resume in 2020.

This is including the geotechnical site exploration program, pile raft foundation design, pile load testing, foundation-tower interaction studies, wind tunnel testing program, unique aspects of the tower structural, geotechnical engineering design, construction planning, and so on.

What the World’s Best Workplaces Do Differently

There was also some psychology in the keynote, What the World’s Best Workplaces Do Differently. It was presented by Ron Friedman, Ph.D., Founder, ignite80. In the session, the psychologist uses the latest research in the field of workplace excellence to discover the practices that position companies on the right track towards success. This was a resourceful topic for leadership management.

The author of ‘The Best Place to Work: The Art and Science of Creating an Extraordinary Workplace’ shares counterintuitive insights and very actionable recommendations to help build teams that will lead to the success of projects, however big they are.

The above are the main highlights but the event attracts more tracks and plenary sessions.
